Independence Starts Here: Poster Description
The "ground" or base color for the design is white. The other colors are purple, orange and black with the purple and orange chosen to reflect the colors of the logo we're using for the festival.
On the right of the design is a column of orange with the names of either the organizations participating or the names of their plays or events. These names alternate in black, white, or purple on orange. At the bottom of the column are the words "Opening Night Emcee Marlee Matlin," To the left of the colum is the figure of Raul Midon, one of the nationally known performers from the Opening Ceremony. The photo of him from the knees up playing his guitar is in purple and white.
On the extreme left of the design at the bottom is another photo of the two dancers from Light Motion, an integrated dance company with one wheelchair dancer and her partner reclining back to back with arms extended on the wheelchair that is tilted toward the floor. In between these two purple and white photos are the words "In the face of art, disability disappears." The first words, "In the face of art," are in bold black. The words "disability disappears" are twice the size of the first letters. In both words the first three letters, d-i-s, are in a thin, lower case font in grey and the remainder of each of those words are in a very bold orange with a shadow underneath so they pop out. These words, if taken without their prefixes, the apparent intention, then read "ability appears." Under the words and extending to the figures are swirling, curling ribbons of pale orange tying the design together. Then there is a black band of black that reads "The Festival of Disability Arts and Culture October 18 -- November 20, 2007 in white directly under the slogan and the festival logo just to the left and below the orange column of participants. There are also a row of access symbols which we're taking off the design because they'll confuse people into thinking that everything in the festival includes all of this. We're substituting the festival website address there.
